The book decodes the dreams that we can remember and helps us access those that remain hidden from our conciousness . Most dreams occur during the REM phase of our sleep. REM is an acronym for Rapid Eye Movement, which is what researchers observed their sleeping subjects doing - under their closed eye lids . Physiological changes, apart from eye movement, are also apparent . There is another feature of REM sleep- the body ensures it is in place and thus we at times feel a paralysis of muscles when woken deliberately during our REM sleep . Another interesting feature of this level of sleep is that any small change that is not enough to wake the sleeper will be effortlessly introduced into the dream in some imaginative form.
There also exists a symbolic nature of the dreams wherein these symbols represent ideas, states, feelings or even beings which carry meanings which are otherwise inexpressible. Dream symbols are produced spontaneously By ourselves, For ourselves to convey special messages about the real state of affairs in our lives !!
